From nearly start to finish the eventual 2017 BDHF Champion Shawn Williams lead the field. Shawn employed a consistent round by round beat down of any challenger. The 2017 Invitational took a little longer to get off the ground after a rain shortened first round. Shawn had to wait an extra day to start laying waste to his competition.
The first full round was played on the Arthur Hills Memorial course and by the end Shawn led the next closest player in the field by 5 strokes. John Duba Jr led after the first 9 by one stroke but faded down the stretch. Shawn turned in a solid 39 on the back nine to take his lead.
Unlike ANY other player previous in the BDHF, Shawn would get up before anyone else and play a pre-round. That kind of commitment to golf at the Broken Driver was rather awe inspiring. He came to play!
The last round started a little rough for our eventual champion as the Donald Ross got on top of his game early. Starting with a triple bogey on hole #1 the field was ready to pounce. Shawn recovered brilliantly and turned the first run of 9 holes ever done under par in a BDHF invitational and ran away with the victory. The next closest player was 20 strokes behind!
Shawn went SO low on day 3 that he was able to win not only the BDHF Trophy but he also ran away with the BDHF Flask for lowest overall Net against his handicap. Netting an overall -7. Congrats to Shawn Williams… the 2017 BDHF Champion!
