Starting in 2015 the BDHF began to calculate handicaps in order to maintain a NET score for each golfer. This process allows the BDHF to offer a championship for those golfers who do the best against their own handicap. The handicap system we use at the BDHF is a rolling handicap that is calculated after each round using all previous handicap data available and making any necessary adjustments.
Each player is assigned an initial handicap modifier that is either given to the BDHF by the player using their own handicap tools, assigned by the BDHF committee based on previous scoring data, or if a player currently holds a USGA official handicap.
Rolling Handicap
After round ONE, the system will determine a handicap for the player based on the following formula:
(Gross Score – Course Rating ) * 113/Course Slope = Players Round Handicap
This new handicap will then be averaged against the users original handicap modifier for round one to provide a new adjusted handicap. This handicap will then be used as the starting handicap for the following round.
As we gather more accurate handicap data throughout the outing, we can more accurately provide handicaps per golfer for each round. The NET scoring will now come directly from the hole by hole net scores for each card. This is calculated using the actual handicap of the hole against the handicap of the golfer. This will be more accurate given the difficulty of each hole on the course against the actual score on that particular hole.
Score Card
After nearly 3 years of fixing and mixing we have landed on a scoring sheet that will allow us to enter each players scores after each round and immediately see how each golfer stands in the group. This will also allow the sore keeper(s) to quickly identify the pars and birdies for calculation of skins.
